Opulent Hibiscus
Framed - 16 x 20 acrylic on canvas.
Provenance
Flowers have always captivated me. My mother coaxed beauty from the rocky soil of our home. In later years Botany was my area of study at university. There is such delicacy and perfection of design although each flower is individual and different. Hibiscus flowers come in an array of colours and in their form are both frivolously frilly and brightly bold. But they are ephemeral, lasting but a day. Depending on the culture, they are a symbol for beauty, perfection, or the fleeting nature of fame or glory. In this painting I attempt to capture a little simulacrum of life – beautiful, perfectly imperfect, glorious, but fugitive.
