I am lucky enough to count Lisa Bokelmann Sells among my friends and look forward to the photos she shares of the beautiful scenes of our province. I also admire her fortitude in climbing out of bed in the dark in all weathers to catch the sunrise, and the magical, misty, morning moments. Her photo of this scene at Fort Amherst affected me deeply and I was grateful that she was willing to let me try and capture that emotion in acrylic. Lighthouses are iconic. They speak of the indomitable nature of the human spirit and the will to survive an ocean that can be as punishing as it can be beneficent. Here Fort Amherst stands implacable in the face of a churning sea, as the gold and pink light of morning breaks.  A long time in the making, the painting was completed in May of 2019.  The original is 16 x 20 acrylic on canvas.
